My earliest recollection of a Jeep was when my brother burnt his leg on a V8 exhaust sticking out on the side of a Willys. It was a day I will never forget as we were in a convoy of Jeeps heading for Sodwana in Northern Natal. I can still see clearly the vehicles as we approached a bend and looking ahead there were Jeeps – not Land Rovers and Toyotas – Willys Jeeps as far as the eye could see. What an amazing sight!
Back then some of the roads leading to Sodwana was yet to be tarred! It was in my dad`s Jeep Sanpan that we where travelling. It was in Sodwana where most of the fun were to be had those days. If you had read the story of John Tree in the recent 4×4 magazine, you would have read the tails of my Dad. His nick name was Jan-Boom (JohnTree) after his arrogance folded his Jeep around a tree stump. (Maybe a little beer had something to do with it 😉
Well I practically lived in that Jeep! I recall once getting out of the Jeep after my Dad started a hill climb and we (the rest of our family) decided it is too steep. Our imaginations were running wild and we were seeing the Jeep flip backwards and rolling down the hill. Offcourse my Dad just laughed and engaged 2nd gear low-range and waited for us at the top!Â
I called the business CJ2 Engineering in honor of that Willys and in honor of our Creator whom created the spirit in us to work on old vehicles like these. We love working with Willys Jeeps and love fixing them and rebuilding them.
